24.10.2007 Vichiunai Grupp AS Paljassaare Kalatööstus Press Release 24.10.2007 “Vici“ breaded squid portions Two new products have been put into production by AS Paljassaare Kalatööstus – „Vici“ breaded squid portions and breaded squid portions with cheese-herbs sauce. „Vici“ squid portions are deep-frozen. Breaded squid fingers are made of low-fat squid meat. Tiiu Sõudme, the leading technologist from AS Paljassaare Kalatööstus says: „Squids have high nutritive value and this is why their meat is used in many countries all over the world from South-America to Scandinavia.“ „In the Mediterranean countries squid meat is used to prepare several highly-valued national dishes by flavoring it with different herbs, salt and pepper,“ Sõudme adds. In addition to being a good source of protein, fats and vitamins, squid meat also contains iodine, iron, phosphorous, calcium etc. Squid meat also contains plenty of extractive matters to help improve the production of digestive juices in human body. 1. „Vici“ breaded squid portions („Ocean steak white“ on the package), deep-frozen, 295 g. Breaded squid portions sawn from a block of squid mass, covered with bread crumbs, pre-cooked and frozen. Ingredients: squid mince 67%, wheat- flour, vegetable oil, salt (max. 1,5 %), corn starch , modified corn starch, paprika powder, yeast, turmeric powder, milk proteins, glucose syrup, raising agents Nutritive value (100 g of the product contains on the average): energy – 147kcal/616kJ, protein – 12 g, fat – 6 g, carbohydrates – 11 g. Directions of use: Do not thaw, cook! The preparation of breaded squid portions is simple, convenient and fast for cooks of all ages. Prepare the portions either in oven, on a frying pan or in hot oil in a fritter. Pre-heat the oven to 200° C. Place the squid portions in the centreal area of the oven on a baking sheet using grease-proof paper. Cook the product for about 20 minutes. Pre-heat the frying-pan at medium tempretature, add some oil if necessary. Place the squid portions on the pan and fry them for ca 6 minutes on both sides. In a fritter pre-heat the oil to 170° C. Place the squid portions carefully into the oil and cook them for 5 minutes. Serve with potatoes, rice or vegetable salad and add fried onions according to your preferences. Use either hot or cold sauces flavored with salt, dill and parsley. 2. „Vici“ breaded squid portions with cheese-herbs sauce („Ocean steak white with cheese“ on the package), deep-frozen, 300 g. Breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce is a new product in the combination of delicious white squid meat and juicy novel herb sauce with a pleasantly crispy breading. Breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce is made of minced squid and covered with cheese-herbs sauce, a mixture of Mediterranean herbs and cheese. Ingredients: Squid mince 52 %, mayonnaise (water, vegetable oil, egg yolk, sugar, mustard, skimmed milk powder, vinegar), wheat flour, cheese 2 %, corn starch, salt (max. 1,5 %), modified corn starch, glucose syrup, milk proteins, lactose, onion powder, garlic powder, herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley), pepper, paprika powder, yeast, raising agents, thickeners, dextrose, preservative. Directions of use: Do not thaw, cook! Breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce can be prepared either in the oven or fritter. Place the breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce on a baking sheet and cook in the central part of the oven at 200º C for ca 20 minutes. Breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce can also be prepared in the fritter. Pre-heat the oil to 130º C and place the product into hot oil, cook for ca 12 minutes. Suitable as a separate meal or to be served with rice, salad or vegetables. Add cold or hot sauces, spicy tomato sauce with breaded squid is an especially good combination. Preservation of the products: temperatures –18°C or lower until the date printed on the package. Do not re-freeze the product! The average sales price of „Vici“ deep-frozen squid portions (295 grams) and breaded squid with cheese-herbs sauce (300 grams) is 17-19 kroons. „Vici“ deep-frozen ready-to-eat products are produced by AS Paljassaare Kalatööstus.
